The Super Series Mixed Doubles event is this upcoming weekend.
The Super Series is a series of mixed doubles events aimed at the top mixed doubles teams in the world. There have been events in Ottawa, Saskatoon, Leduc (Nov 17-20), Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg (Dec 1-4), and then concludes in southern Ontario with the final event.
This is the first year for this event and if this event is successful from the competitors' and the clubs' perspective, the plans are to extend the tour for another three years.
Fort Rouge Curling Club is going to have one of the strongest fields - we have about a dozen teams from overseas, and many top Canadian Mixed Double teams are entered. There are 30 teams competing in six round-robin pools of five teams. Two teams from each pool go to Saturday night's first playoff round, with quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals going on Sunday.
Round Robin Draws: Thursday: 2:00 PM, 5:30 PM, 9:00 PM Friday: 9:00 AM, 12:00, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 9:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM, 12:30 PM
Playoff Draws: Saturday: 4:00 (tie-breakers), 8:00 PM (Round 1 Playoff) Sunday: 9:00 AM (quarter-finals), 12:30 PM (semi-finals), 4:00 PM (final)
Admission for Thursday - Saturday is a donation to the FRCC Juniors program. Sunday will be $5 per game or $10 for the day.
There will be some games streamed on CBC sports - we have not received that schedule yet.
We are still needing a few more volunteers.
