Canadian border rules relaxing
I've just seen this report from Mackenzie Gray, reporter from CTV National News covering Parliament Hill. @Gray_Mackenzie
NEW - On August 9, fully vaccinated Americans and PR, living in the US, will be allowed into Canada without a quarantine period
On September 7, Canada intends to open up to the rest of the world, allowing people fully vaccinated with approved to shots in
To be let into Canada, a traveller needs to have finished their vaccine series with either Pfizer, Moderna, J&J or AZ, 14 days prior to arrival and get a negative test within 72 hours of arrival.
Sorry to everyone who got Sputnik or Sinopharm, you won’t be let in
Travellers need to put their vaccination proof into the ArriveCAN app or website and if they don’t, they won’t be let into the country.
If your proof of vaccination isn’t in English or French, you’ll need a certified translation so the border guards can read it #cdnpoli
As of Aug 9th, unvaccinated kids below 12 don’t have to do a 14 day quarantine. Despite this, officials said in an earlier technical briefing for journalists that there will be restrictions around going to summer camp, daycare and other group settings #cdnpoli
As for what those restrictions are, officials said they won’t be releasing a list about where you can and can’t go with your kids but they say that kids should avoid large groups indoors and follow local public health rules. So parents, good luck figuring that out… #cdnpoli
Also on August 9th, the hotel quarantine program is done. Eligible unvaccinated people allowed into Canada will still need to quarantine for 14 days and follow testing requirements. #cdnpoli
Testing requirements will also change Aug 9th. Everyone will still require a negative molecular test result 72 hours before arrival but if you’re doing a short trip to the US, you can get your test in Canada, go the US and use the test you got in Canada to come back in #cdnpoli
Officials on the tech briefing noted that the US still hasn’t said when they will start letting Canadians into the US for discretionary travel but I have a hard time believing Canada would put this plan out if a deal with the US wasn’t in place #cdnpoli
Another testing change, there will no longer be mandatory testing for everyone at the airport. They now plan to just randomly pull people out of the line and force them to get a test, regardless of your vaccination status #cdnpoli
More airports will also be getting international travel back. Ottawa, Edmonton, Quebec City, Halifax and Winnipeg will also be allowed to accept international fights as of Aug 9th
Only Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary can currently accept international flights #cdnpoli
Public Safety Minister Bill Blair says he spoke with his US counterpart who said the US hasn't made a decision on reopening their border to Canadians and added that current restrictions will continue past July 21st #cdnpoli
