I'm sure it's a bit of a headgame as well, especially with Kean having to play his old team so frequently. One interesting Stat is that with Kean's new team he is 4-1 vs. Epping with Fanset, Janssen and Marsh. When Kean had this team himself he was 3-7 vs. Epping.
I'm sure with the team firing Kean as skip, there is extra motivation whenever he plays the new team Epping.

Very much so. Those stats are interesting and somewhat illustrate the point I was making about "potential" Both these teams have some great talent, but I just love what I see from this Kean team. The biggest issue has been chemistry issues or "personality conflicts".

Last draw coming up at 7pm. Still lots to decide with 6 teams still in the mix:
code:
Team W L
KEAN, Mark 7 2
EPPING, John 7 2
MACAULAY, Ian 6 3
CORNER, Peter 6 4
BALSDON, Greg 5 4
DOW, Colin 5 4
FRANS, Joe 4 5
RUMFELDT, Rob 4 5
SQUIRES, Aaron 3 6
ST. DENIS, Jon 2 7
HEGGESTAD, Cory 1 8
The 5+ loss teams are out.
Kean is guaranteed a spot in the 1v2 game, but the underdog MacAulay has the tie-breaker over Epping, so they still have a shot at the 1v2 game.
Corner/Middaugh is safe in the barn with a 6-4 record: they can do no worse than a tie-breaker. They have the bye and will be watching from the patch I would imagine.
Balsdon needs to beat Frans, and Dow needs to beat Squires.
CurlingGeek will cover the Epping v. Rumfeldt game. Early indication is that RogersTV will have Balsdon v. Frans.

I feel bad for Dow but that was a very entertaining game vs. Middaugh.

But Wayner should be able to squirm his way to the Brier now. Only question is how much resistance Kean provides.
Do u think Wayne picks up Glenny as his 5th for Brier?
You have already decided that Corner is going to beat Epping and Kean???

Corner should be able to manhandle Epping; bit more trouble subduing Kean in final!
your dead wrong. epping has a 6-0 record against corner

It would be tough for Kean to beat Epping 3 straight times so I guess if your going to lose on the weekend the 1v2 game is where to do it. Tomorrow will be interesting against Corner/Middaugh. I expect Kean to win but Wayne is one of the most gifted curlers I've ever seen and is certainly capable of carrying a team to victory. If the rest of his crew show up tomorrow they could definitely make a run to the Brier. But again, I expect the rubber match between the young guns.

I agree. I'd also give a shout-out to Russ, who was one of the most technical/pure throwers there's ever been. All special talents.

Wayner Middaugh still not going down without a fight this a.m.
Gets racked up for a 4 in the 1st.
Now its 5-3 at the break.
Wayne might now win but I'm sure he's gonna torment the crap outta Kean rest of the game!
Don't worry M.I. Glenny still may be going to the brier.

A huge congrats to team Kean. Looks like there'll be a "Howard" at the Brier after all....just a different one. I was very impressed with this young team all week, and it bodes well for Ontario curling for the future.

congrats to team kean, very happy for them
at the same time gutted for epping. just a strange call by him in the 8th end to guard when he should have come in. i think he would have been forcing all day if he had.think that was the key. was very even until that po7nt. then just a disaster of a 9th end for epping. made a brilliant draw to score

Didn't John cut Scott Howard from his team a few years ago?

Yes along with David Mathers I think, and then Mark Kean's team cut him late last year and he picked up Eppings old team (or most of them. Interesting. I wonder if Epping will be looking for a new vice...

john made the final of the provincials for the first time with this line up. safe to say he will stick with them
what gives you the idea he would get rid of travis fanset

Not to be mean to Fanset but he was definitely the weak link in that final which put a lot of extra pressure on John. I don't want John to drop him (don't really know who is out there that will fit the team dynamic) but I am sure they will be looking at what went wrong after the 5th end break as they were very much in control of that game going into it.
With regards to Howard and Mathers being dropped by Epping. It wasn't their skill that cost them spots on his team. If you are at all involved in the tour you know why they parted ways. Heck, Mike Harris' commentary during the Semi-Final really said it all.
Unfortunately you can see Howard, Mathers and Camm are already brow beating Kean into submission. Kean didn't use to be so indecisive with his shot calls. I worry about his mental game, he's a soft spoken, kind soul. Just look at how he interacted with team Epping after the win. With two guys that draw a lot of ire from the community its gonna be tough road. Its hard to play with that kind of target on your back and you can tell Camm is just waiting for the opportunity to take over the reins. Mark wouldn't have been demoted in the National if he wasn't. The Kean team is 3v1, if they struggle at the Brier the sparks may fly.
