I'd be curious if all the CC red coats are STILL flying in and going into quarantine, then come and go from all the draws and slop up the gravy at the bubble hotel. In these "Trying times" and zero paying fans, will CC saunter up to the trough, or, for fiscal responsibility stay the blazes home. Things that make you say hmmm. Time will tell.

MIsty, I agree too expensive. It is generating funds for the foundation. I am assuming this is not the Shmirler Foundation who would be losing a lot of money if the telethon does not happen.
Tape a picture of your head to your television when the game is on and then take another pic. Much cheaper.

yes, i get it.
however its still absurd to charge that much for a piece of cardboard then try and make it sound like the money is going to a good cause. why does it have to be so much. they could do the same thing for half the cost

Buy not buying a piece of cardboard does not prove your cheap. It proves your smart. Nobody in their right mind would buy one. Now if they made it a 50/50 draw, at least you would have a chance at winning something. Still a big gamble to get NOTHING for your money.

I actually think several 100 folks will purchase cardboard cut-outs to be used as audience replacements.
Why?
#1 - its really not that expensive, in the scheme of things, CCA will take the e-mailed pics and create the materials in their print shop for use during broadcasts.
#2 - Excellent advertising. Might even have to limit the # of cut-outs as guys like Arnie Asham will see this strictly as an advertising opportunity, Very cheap I might add.
#3 - In addition to advertising, old CCA guard like Resby Coutts will purchase these as self-gratification, whispering his innuendos into innocent champion curlers ears (female)
#4 - Political publicity. Premiers and sitting MPs (Parliament) will chump change in to get some political mileage out of the deal
#5 - Covid remembarances. What better way to recognize our fallen covid warriors and curling fans by taking out a cardboard cut-out of the fallen curling fan. I rather think this is a grand idea.
#6 - in conjunction with #5, a few cut-outs of front-line doctors, nurses, care-givers that deserve more recognition than anyone, including me.
for what they are giving it is actually very expensive. its a piece of cardboard. thats ridiculous.
i have no doubt they wont have trouble finding people willing to throw away this money. sports fans are, more than most seemingly willing to piss money away even if they cant really afford it

Any premier/MP who would spend money on this type of PR during a pandemic when small businesses are dying should be run out of office.

Maybe CC can provide tax deductible donation receipts for "donations" to up the ante for cardboard posters in the stands and then delivered to those who "donate" . I can see cardboard posters of Scotties toilet paper, Tim Horton's etc behind the sheets. Much cheaper than tv time.
My only concern is, is the safety of all those involved, teams, volunteers, officials yada yada, worth the money from the tv deals. It's all about the money, both CC and the associations across the country.
I agree with earlier posters, if they cant hold the Scotties /Brier, and they're he'll bent on hosting the world's, just send last year's winner who missed out.

Do you want my neighbor, my coworker, the man on our parish council or the 22 year old daughter of a family friend?
Or the two 50 somethings in the obituaries this morning?
Maybe Canada is different, but this is real in the USA.

Warren & Kevin keep saying they need a players association this would have been a good time to have one. Egos are involved too...

Spot on. This should be the case for all countries that would have otherwise participated in the cancelled worlds last year. IMO the only tournaments that matter this year are the worlds as they determine 2022 Olympic qualification. If this can't be held, the WCF will need to re-modify their process to determine participants for the Games.

there are egos at the top that are just to big for them to have ever decided on such a thing

Will rinks from the Maritimes and NL compete? Not much chance to win and 2 week quarantine when they return? Of course rules may change by Feb.

a lot of teams might have to weigh those pros and cons the way krista and her team did and decide whats more important to them. i wouldnt be surprised if, faced with a up to a month away from their family more teams decide not to go

this ban of flightd from the UK by european nations could get interesting if switzerland joins in. you'd wonder , if it was in effect by the time the womens worlds roll around would scotland be allowed to send a team if switzerland joined the european nations banning uk travelers

canada has just joined that list banning flights from the UK indefinitely. throw another wrinkle in. if this is still in place come worlds then scotland may not be able to send a mens team to worlds.

If yes, then what basis are the 2 squads selected . . . ? ? ?
PS. Nothing wrong with Gunner (Jason Gunnlaugson). He upset Reid/Mikey at 2019 Manitoba playdowns. Unfortunately, Gunner's form chart says he's unable to stand up to the big monsters of the mid-way (ie. Jacobs, Gushue, Epping, Bottcher, Howard, Koe, etc.)
Mikey & Reid bit better standing up to the bully-monsters of Canadian mens curling but neither team capable of dominating ALL the USUAL MONSTER SUSPECTS.
dont worry, curling canada will do what they can to get them in. im already seeing rumors on twitter that the field will be expanded to 18 to get certain teams in
