Great start by Scotland. Close game against Italy, but they always looked the more likely and so it happened. Korea and Norway today, which they’ll be hoping to at least win one of.

I think Gushue and Team Canada are going to take this one. Edin really hasn’t been on form since the Olympics ended and didn’t look great yesterday. Scotland are good, but never the same without Mouat. It feels like Canada’s year

Against SUI just now, SWE was up 6-2 at half time break and lost 8-7. Haven't watched the game yet, so it could just be the ice, but Edin himself is 69% on official stats.

Edin lost out in the triple knockout Swedish Championships. Losing happens.

I didn’t watch the game but it appears he missed shots in 9 and 10 to score. In 10 he played a fairly routine double to win and wicked off one and out of the house. I’m not sure I remember the last time he did that.
But he can show up tomorrow and shoot 100% so I won’t read too much into it.

At 2022 Swedish championship, Team Edin played a few games (maybe all) without Rasmus Wranå. Instead, Fredrik Lindberg was lead, and Christoffer Sundgren was second.

Y'all can read this in so many ways, but I think it's fair to suggest that lineup change was also a potential contributing factor to the loss.

Compared to the club teams they played, the lineup change wasn't that drastic. I watched the games and they just looked tired and uninterested..

For NED vs CAN round robin game, Brett Gallant gets the best LSD of the event so far (1.1 cm), but Mark Nichols maxed out his. Did they talk about what happened in the broadcast?

Watching the game and there’s 50 people watching? Well done WCF.
🙄This is like every draw when the host country isn’t playing and the event isn’t in Canada

That doesn't explain his loss to Italy and a 2 loss day.

A win is a win. Combination slow start and crappy ice but still a win for Canada. Crappy ice is always to the advantage of the less talented team. Yeah yeah ice is the same for both teams, but it’s still crappy. Maybe worlds should be held in countries/cities where the avg temp that time of year is not 30C. Especially when the venue is empty. If it’s held in the US I’m sure crowds and temps would be better in Minnesota or Wisconsin where they actually have curlers and clubs.
Just s thought.

Agree. Why on earth do they run this event in Vegas anyway. Hm......

No idea why they have it in Vegas. Not sure there will be an explosion in junior curling there soon. It should be a good holiday for E.J. though. Maybe because the WCF executive like to gamble and enjoy Vegas. Expensive place for others not on expences.

WCF.... cue the music, it’s all about the money, money, money. Funny/ peculiar they’d make more with 5000 or even more watching vs 50. They’ll always have the tv revenue from the 5-6 countries that actually care about curling, but more spectators=more money for all involved. Local organizers, the national body, WCF, etc.
Oh but we’re trying to grow the game, in the desert. Can you say coyotes?

I have to say that I really like the LGT-sponsored house colors. I guess you'll say this is navy blue and gold?
I want to see more sponsor colors for the houses. I think WCF really missed an opportunity to use pink as house colors at the EasyToys-sponsored Olympic Qualification Event.

The 1st year the event was held in Vegas actually was an attendance success. Tickets sold out months before. People from Western Canada got cheap flights down there. Show girls entertained in the venue. It was a new experience but new can become stale quickly.

No business holding this in Vegas but I imagine the WCF would like to hold the next 2 in the Bahamas and Hawaii as their comfort is more important than the actual curling.

Worlds did well in Vegas 4 years ago.Â_If you want to know why they held it there, it's because it worked before, so they thought that it could work again. It had more attendance than most worlds in Canada. Vegas has worked before. It's not like they went there on a whim with all the Continental Cups they staged there plus the Men's Worlds in 2018.
It's not like it came out of nowhere like some people here are saying.

I just watched SUI vs SWE game.
Highlight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VHSjSrvz_w
I didn't get the feeling that Edin was uninterested or lacking energy. In fact, he was very jovial and joked around when the biter measurement didn't go his way ("Classic force!"), and all throughout the game.
I would say his misses come mostly from the super upweight shots with arm extension, facilitated by the No-Tick Zone rule. He'd probably be more deadly and would've won had he tone down the hit weights.

Please tell me a non Canadian venue that you think would have higher attendance numbers? Worlds traditionally does not have big attendance when it’s outside of Canada. Might as well make a spectacle out of it everyonce in a while instead of some poor arena in Finland

Any US event within driving distance of the Canadian border. Traditional 50% of spectators pre pandemic around the world are Canadian. If it’s within driving distance 75% or more.

Because it’s in Vegas, I’ll bet 80% in the crowd are Canadian. The rest are families and friends of the other countries. US care factor not so much.

Lineup report: Mikkel Krause, who skipped DEN at 2022 Olympics, is listed as alternate on this team, but played in the starting lineup in all 3 games so far. He played with his own black tape broom, at least for the TV game against FIN.

Perhaps they could stage a World Curling Championship event in Florida...or Arizona.
There are likely enough snowbirds to fill the venue.
It's not as if there's much else to do in Florida....other than MLB spring training...
