that 'O is consistently asked to sub for super competitive
world class teams and, that your 'Look At Me Now' heroine
doesn't seem to be nearly as well liked or respected. Period.
Full stop.
Your 'purist' point of view has nothing to do, whatsoever,
with the subject at hand. And if you do not understand this,
it may be worthwhile to read the paragraph above one more
time.
We REALLY REALLY need a like button.

Agreed that Cathy O is mostly respected. And she's often asked to be a "super-spare" for short-handed international and domestic teams.
What is not explainable for her perceived high talent level is why no super-competitive Canadian team has brought her aboard as a so-called SUPER 3rd?
She's a very good curler, no doubt. Even at 47. But she rarely sustains a high level of play. Also signs in the last tourney she spared that she was imposing herself on the international team she was sparing for.
From a purist point of view (ie. nothing to do with personalities) Jones got herself a 3rd who's easily a better shooter than Cathy O - better on takeouts, about equal on draws & hits stick far more often than COC. Also, Lawes not nearly as feisty or resistant to team strategy.
When you go thru the entire check-list Lawes was equal or better on most counts - except experience!
Yes, Jones went out and replaced Overton-Clapham with someone who is 20 years younger, someone who has more potential, and, perhaps most importantly, someone who has far less experience, and who would be subservient to Jones, allowing Jones the dominant control she seems to require.
Is Jones a 'team player'? Sure she is... as long as everyone follows her commands.
Perhaps Cathy's only 'crime' was daring to question Jennifer.

Perhaps the whole thing had nothing to do with Jennifer?

Are you trying to say that a major team change with one of the most winning teams would have nothing to do with the skip? Are you kidding? The skip has first and last word on changes with their team. The only time they wouldn't is when the rest of the team dumps the skip. Rare, but does happen.

Uh-huh...
That's why Jennifer and Cathy have avoided each other like the plague since the situation - because Jennifer is wholly innocent and bares no responsibility for the 'firing'.
Let me guess - you think Ed Werenich was the one who made the decision to cut Cathy from Jones's team, right?

I would suppose that of Jenn would have to the deliver the news...she had two options. Surprised how we never hear anything about what the front end's input might have been - oh well!

funny - Ed Werenich. he probably, if he watches them, could suggest a change. Yup, that is what I know for sure. Ed phoned up Jenn, cause he probably knows a lot more about the game then ALL of us posters and told Jenn to dismiss Cathy...funny!

Did they button down or "batten down the hatches"? Maybe the ships in MB only need buttons. There were many stories swirling when Cathy O went to Charlottetown for the Scotties in the months following the ceremonial dumping. 99% of the crowd were on her side and she received a standing ovation when she beat Jones. As she usually does any time she beats her with any team she's on playing against her. What does that say?

FALSE PREMONITION
The theory that Jenny realized in the 2009/2010 season that
'O could not stand up to the rising threat of Miskew may be partially correct, but probably not correct at all.
Back in '09 Miskew was just 20 years of age, still in Junior curling. When Jenny played against Homan in 2007 - the only time they competed prior to the 2010 season - 'O did outcurl Miskew - so why this would cause Jenny undue concern is questionable, at best.
What must have and what should have caused her deep, deep concern was that she had just been outsmarted and outcurled by Homan, a teenager from Ottawa who at that point was too young to even qualify for the Scotties.

TRD. Sounds reasonable to me.
As for the odds:
1) Jenny 1-9
2) E & E* 10-1
3) The Field 99-1
*Einarson & Englot
Let's hope for an upset!

Seems to me the chance of any team in the 'Express' group
winning the Scotties is slim to none - and Slim just left
the building!

Kleibrink is still having back problems. This time, a slipped
disk.
Physiotherapists believe they will need to work on it for at
least 3 -4 days.
Nedohin will skip in the interim.

Today will be quite interesting. Sure looks like Cheryl Reed has that 2nd spot in the Asham group. Reed was probably around the 14th seed in this event. She has to beat Briscoe, while Birchard has to beat Jones to tie for 2nd.
In the Asham Express group Einarson needs to beat Robertson to avoid a tiebreaker (I think). Englot needs to defeat Cathy OC.

Englot vs. Cathy O is another battle of treacherous old vets that should be televised. Might be really, really good. Cathy has nothing to play for except dragging Englot into a tie-breaker so I'd favour Cathy - but only at 51%
Awe ML - you lost money on your odds. Four contenders in this group. Robertson has grit and if her team wants it, they can deliver. It is such a head game. Englot front end knows COC - they've curled for her. Lots of personality (friends mostly) on the ice. Good on COC for pushing through. Jones has not had to face any grit yet. NaDaDa. They probably know though.

Per CurlManitoba's twitter feed, Englot is 1st in her group, meaning she'll play Jones tonight. This presumably means that Einarson & Robertson will be in a tiebreaker for 2nd place in the Asham Express group.

And now the Asham group will also have a tiebreaker for 2nd place - Birchard vs. Reed.

A couple of VERY 1-sided games in the tiebreakers. Last year's champion now eliminated. So Jones vs. Englot is the 1 - 1; and Birchard vs. Robertson in the 2 - 2.

Am not getting any video - but Robertson is up on Jones. I would like to see an Englot Robertson final. But, it isn't over yet.

Would love to see Englot/Robertson final. Time to see some new faces and give these teams from Manitoba a glimmer of the the rest of Canada curling. I think we'd be happy with the outcome.
