Scotland steal another 1 in the 8th end. 4-0 and Czech Republic are 9-for-9 on hammers.

And that's it! Scotland steal 2 more points in the 9th, go 6-0 up, and Czech Republic offer the handshakes. 6-0 win without every getting the hammer.

Well, a 6-0 shutout, for a team that didn't start with that all-important first end hammer.
Inconceivable!

I'm getting a bit antsy waiting for EJ Harnden to play in a game. On the flip side, Mikkel Krause played in 8 out of 8 games so far. I could be wrong, but he might become the first alternate ever at a world championship that played in every possible game.

First international tournament in quite a few years when I felt the Canadian team deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the other top teams in the tournament. Gushue having a great week.
That's one of the most delusional posts I've ever seen on here. The vast majority of top men's teams are Canadian.
Canada has dominated men's Curling for years. Even in this tournament, 2 golds and 2 silvers the last 5 events. We only get to send one team.
I can only remember one year we didn't send a solid Gold medal threat.

I debated editing my post the second I posted because I was worried someone would reply with this. But I hoped people would resist and think that this is obviously the comparison since we haven't had playoffs yet. Lesson learned: don't be optimistic online!

From the 2018 Olympics onwards until now in men’s and women’s team curling, Canada has only won a single event (Jennifer Jones 2018 worlds). Switzerland dominate women’s curling and Sweden dominate men’s curling.
Canadians no longer have a god given right to win this thing every year. The Europeans have caught up and the Asian teams are getting closer, too.

I'm still quite amazed that Homan & Jones somehow won 2017 and 2018 World Women's undefeated. I wonder now if that was a curse more than a blessing for Canadian high-performance curling.

You're being a moron and seem to be oblivious to how strong many Canadian men's teams are. As I clearly stated, we won 4 silver or better medals in 5 events. In terms of international events, Canada has won a ton of them as evidenced by Grand Slam results etc etc,
But you can type any bs you like on the internet. Oh well.

There's a key difference between Grand Slam events and worlds/olympics/Europeans etc
In the world championships, you're playing for the country, not for a team.
If you want to use hockey as an analogy, the grand slam events are like the NHS, the world championships/olympics of curling are like the equivalent events in hockey.
When it comes to the latter, strength in depth does not matter one bit. The Swedes/Swiss/Scots don't particularly care which particular arrangement of Canadian players they beat, it's all just Team Canada to them.
Grand slam events are totally different. You aren't representing a country in those. There's a reason you play against "Team Edin" in a grand slam but you play against Sweden at the world championships. It might be the same four players but it's fundamentally a different concept.

The announcers keep describing Joe Polo as a gold medal winner at the Olympics. Wasn't the team Shuster, George, Hamilton and Landsteiner?

Polo was their alternate. He was also on the team that won bronze in 2006.

Team Canada needs to stop using "picks" as an excuse for being missed shots. USA was clearly the superior team for this game.

And the rock/ice stuff. Yeah they're both tricky but it was the lesser experienced team that took the W here with that.

Wouldn't we all love to play a couple times a week under such "crappy" conditions?
I have watched many hours of this event and think conditions are good. Maybe not the greatest, but teams cannot use it as an excuse.

^ They also didn't have a legitimate shot for two to send it to extra's.
Side note: Since I can't seem to access anything in Rock Talk past page 1 to see if there is a threat for this, but Team Homan lost their first game of the Ontario Scotties handedly.

That might matter to Canadians, but it's irrelevant for WCF. Scoreboard and stones in the house are irrelevant when a team runs out of time at Worlds. That team loses, period.
Even if the team is ahead by 3 and sitting 3 in the 4-ft fully guarded, etc., the team instantly loses when they run out of time.

I have no idea what you think you are saying but it's all pretty pointless. Canada on the men's side has been the strongest nation ( easily) for decades. To claim that any nation is now "dominating" Canada in ANY international curling event is just pure fiction. We remain the top nation with a few hand picked pro teams globally being able to compete on a roughly even basis with our top teams. You could run any of our top half dozen teams against Edin it's no worse then a coin flip. Your claim that some of our most recent teams like Koe and Jacobs were somehow inferior to the "top" teams is laughable.

Fact is, Sweden won men's gold in 2018, 2019, and 2021, and Switzerland won women's gold in 2019, 2021, 2022.
That's not an attack against Canada per se. That's just a simple fact.
I think most people would agree that if the gold medal from the last 3 world championship had been won by one team, then that team is kind of "dominant" (for lack of better words) over the competition for that period of time.

I agree. Today the whole team just seemed a bit “off”. They all struggled with the rocks, the ice, the weight, the line, and credit where credit is due,US outplayed them. The score was not indicative of the play. Could have been much worse. Having said that, every team has a game or 2 that they just don’t have it. Hopefully Canada has had theirs already. Just shrug it off and move on to the next game.
Go Canada Go.
