with the Grand Slam behind us, which teams got the bye for the coming Oylmpic
Curling trials ? this was not mentioned earlier would somebody please explain , it is obvious that the Epping rink has got a bye due to the win, and I would expect Howard to also get the bye...

however in the back of her mind i'm also sure that she's probably hoping that stefanie lawton and kelly scott, 2 teams that have had her number in the past miss the trials.
although heather nedohin has become pretty good at beating her lately too

It will be interesting to see how the teams manage their schedules next year. Probably lots of top teams in the major events. The field for point-rich Canada Cup is set - unless someone opts out - in addition to Jen and Heather, S. Middaugh, Cathy O, Lawton, Carey and Webster are eligible to go. The Provincials and National Scotties should be even more hotly contested than usual. Unless it's someone from way left field (or Jen or Heather) the winner of the Scotties should be a shoo-in for one of the remaining direct entries to the trials. Will be fun to follow. In the meantime bring on Summer!!
BTW I'd be surprised if Stefanie doesn't get one of the spots. But then again at the beginning of last season I said I thought this was her year to win the Scotties.

thanks for that bit of info will keep in mind, curling is over for now it seems have to let the ribs heal after slam dunking on the ice during closing spiel at our club... falling on a rock with handle digging into ones ribs is not the way to go.... but looking forward at the next curling season with using a brand new "goldline' fiber lite brush ....

Each provincial winner doesn't get the same amt of pts- there is a strength of field multiplier involved, so that may affect accumulation of pts and the brier/scotties winner gets only 45. So some teams will need to start entering all the big events to boost their total. 6 automatic plus 12 to the pretrials mean some lower ranked teams still have a chance.
How much time and $ are teams willing to spend to get to the big show??

In addition to the 45 points, the Scotties winner also gets a chance to collect more points at the Worlds - where, of course, there's no other Canadian team. This year for instance Heather got 30 points for coming in 3rd. She also benefitted from winning in a strong province which is as it should be as far as I'm concerned. The points at the worlds I'm less sure of, but that's another topic. It's because of the extra points from the Worlds that I think the Scotties winner shouldn't have trouble getting one of the three CTRS based direct entries to the trials. Unless, as I mentioned, someone who doesn't win much else all year, or already has a spot wins the Scotties.
There will be quite a few relatively lower ranked teams in the pre-trials. It will be interesting to see who does come out of that group.

to Dark Horse.... you may have a point there, but seriously is Coleen Jones a threat to what is out there ? you'll might see her try but getting older has its disadvantages when it comes to competitive curling , OLD SKIPS NEVER DIE ... they just miss the broom more often '....we'll see down the road...

Just keep in mind Colleen is not skipping the team! Mary-Anne Arsenault is the skip. Arsenault has a great lead and as we saw with Amber Holland, and Cathy O at the 2011 Scotties, as long as you can make the big shots as a skip anything is possible!

Mary-Anne will be calling the shots.. Colleen is expected to play either second or third.. most likely third.
She can hold up to it. The past two years she has won Nova Scotia Senior Provincials throwing 4th rock and sweeping, while Nancy Delahunt called the game, and last year was immediately after her illness. They came in 3rd place at the Canadian Seniors this year, so Colleen is more than capable.
I'm pretty sure with all of the funding cuts to CBC, they will be more than happy to give her time off to curl!

Worst opponent for J Jones? ..It's Colleen and crew that could strike the most fear into young JJ's heart should they tee off in the Scotties and beyond. Winningest curling team at the Scotties. 5 championships in 6 years including a 4 year winning streak. More World Curling championships than JJ. etc, etc.
Just sayin', 2004 wasn't that long ago.

the team that seems to be JJ's cryptonite is stefanie lawton. She really seems to have jenniffer's number. Perhaps its because when you stack team members up against the other with the exception of marliese stefanie's team is equal to and perhaps better than jenniffer's at every position. Lawton's team just matches up so well with jenniffer, they can do everything jenniffer's team can and stefanie, like jenniffer is capable of pretty much every shot in the book.
I think the only things that has held stefanie back in her career are the mental side of the game and the fact that until recently..and I guess you could argue that it still is saskatchewan is a harder province to get out of then manitoba.

Not really true about strength of field in the 2 provinces. In the last prov. playdowns MB winner got 16.8 CTRS points (second only to AB) and SK winner got 8, with AB, MB and ON all more. Of course with Holland back in the mix next year the SOF will probably be higher, but I doubt it will be double the 2012 value.

I think curling at the level they are at, any team can beat the other at any point.
Looking back over the season here are some tournaments JJones was in and the teams who beat her:
Scotties:
defeated by Heather Nedohin and Amber Holland during Round Robin
defeated by Kelly Scott and Nedohin during Playoffs
Curlers Corner Grand Slam Event:
defeated by Tracy Horgan, Crystal Webster and Stephanie Lawton. (didn't make the playoffs)
Manitoba Lotteries:
Went to the playoffs, defeated by Cheryl Bernard in the Q.F
Red Deer Curling Classic:
Defeated by Lisa Eyamie in A event, went to playoffs. Defeated by Kelley Law in Q.F
Sunlife Classic:
defeated by Heather Strong in A event, went to playoffs. Defeated by Sherry Middaugh in S.F
Victoria Curling Classic:
went 3-0 in round robin. defeated by Chelsea Carey in SF
Players Championship:
5-2 in round robin, defeated by Nedohin and Lawton. Defeated by Lawton in SF.
With the variety of teams that beat her over the season, it's clear anyone can do it. However Lawton has a good record of wins when it comes to playing Jones
