CBC and Pinty masters

Curious here. All week SN provides very good curling coverage from Nova Scotia and have incurred all the expenses of all their required staff including the team of commentators. WHY would our taxpayer supported CBC incur the expense of sending their commenters for TWO games while the other team is there also. This appears to me to be beyond stupid, unless there is more than a political excuse.

Much Ado About Nothing

Why should taxpayers have to incur the expense of sending a crack team of CBC commenters ( commentators ) to Truro?

The short answer is probably because the CBC signed a contractual agreement with Rogers Communications Inc. covering certain broadcasting rights including curling coverage and at that time possibly agreed to absorb 100% of this specific kind of expense. On the other hand, if you have not read the contract how would you know how much, if any, they agreed to absorb?

In any case, before you and everybody else become totally unglued about the possible staggering cost involved here, let me point out this could amount to at least 0.001% of the CBC's annual budget.

The arrangement between CBC and Sportsnet is an opportunity for the Grand Slams to get some more exposure, similar to how Hockey Night in Canada is on CBC on Saturday nights as well.

The vast majority of the crew works both events, though CBC does like to use their own commentators (which has a lot of overlap still) for their shows too.

Makes sense from a branding perspective.
