OCA Scheduling Conflicts

I know it's at least partially the old administration's fault, and also ice availability is a factor, but could the OCA not do a better job to avoid conflicting events that the same players/teams would be interested in?

In the case of Zone 9, Senior Regions and Intermediate Zones, together with Fairfield Provincials are all next weekend. Also, Colts Regions and Silver Tankard Zones are the same weekend. Silver Tankard finals are Easter Sunday.

I'm pretty sure this was a factor in only two entries for Intermediates, and will be surprised if there are more than a couple of entries in Silver Tankard.

Yep you're right - conflicts are a way of life. The clubs need to offer their ice...it is a double edged sword. With zone entries way down, many clubs are reluctant to offer ice to an event that may few or no entries. Club Bonspiels & rentals which will generate much needed revenue for them come first. So those who want to play in an OCA playdown need to decide what event they go for.

But that's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The entire point of competitions like the Marriott and Colts/Trophy is to be an introduction to OCA competitive play. A couple experienced OCA players pick up some greenies to play front end to get their feet wet, and hopefully those people get a taste for it and at some point graduate to the next level.

If the more experienced players are all off playing intermediates/Tankard/Seniors, there's nobody to hold the new players' hands or encourage them to sign up, which leads to a decline in entries all the way up to Tankard.
