Red Deer Curling classic
so who knows the story for this? Posted on facebook by The Curling News.
The Team of Jamie Koe, Ryan Fry, Chris Schille and DJ Kidby has been ejected from the Red Deer Curling Classic due to unsportsman like behavior, forfeiting their remaining game.

After a Twitter search about this, I found this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3QHqY8gEIg
skip ahead to about 11:47.
This is a livestream camera feed from the event, and at that time stamp you can hear someone telling someone else about what happened with this the day before.

Also, if you go a little further (21:05) the announcer says more (opening game statements)
The team drank the beer, did some shots, then headed to the game drunker than skunks.
Kicked rocks, threw the brooms and became so obnoxious, other teams said they would boycott this event if
team Koe ever showed up again.

Interesting chatter about Ryan Fry...but I don’t think Jacobs could dump him at this point or can he?

Jacobs doesn't want to lose any sponsors. The article said Jacobs phoned the Red Deer club and apologized. I'm shocked that Ryan Fry would behave like this. Jamie Koe is famous for this. He drinks far too much and treats these outings as "lets get drunk". He's an embarrassment to his family, his team(s) and curlers in general.

Fry has a history of doing dumb things. A similar incident involving him happened a few years back when playing for Stoughton.

Yep Jamie is a known partier. The night before the mixed finals when NWT had qualified and had a chance to bring home the first National championship, Jamie had a bit too much of a good time the night before. Needless to say they lost.
Perhaps the team treated this like a regular men's club bonspiel...however there are implications now for at least one of the team - Ryan Fry. At the last Grand Slam, Jacobs was barely talking to Fry. This won't help.

When Jamie added Schille to his team I was disappointed. One of the low points in Saskatchewan curling was when both he and Virtue represented Saskatchewan at the Brier. I'm pretty sure Red Deer is not the first curling club to suffer damage from a team he has been on.

Perhaps Gushue had a similar reason for dumping Fry. Not the first time Fry has embarrassed himself including at national events.

Glad to see that the bonspiel organizers had the fortitude to expel the team. Based on previous discussions it does seem that excessive drinking is common with Koe and the other 2 have been known to be quote “jerks”.
For all you youngsters out there remember, being a good/famous curler doesn’t mean you are a good person. Let’ s put our praise and respect to those who play the game with integrity.

I can link to some of same culprits urinating in curling bags while wholly loaded in a Manitoba event. Lost respect back in that day. Never forgot. Thought they may have recovered but clearly not. such disgusting behavior and denial about alcoholism.

The apologies are all over the social media now. However, maybe they needed this wake up call. In the past drunken antics were brushed off with a laugh...not so much anymore especially when other players are affected by that behavior.
Get drunk but stay in your hotel room or the bar, leave everyone else alone.

for over serving.....
This is the problem with this days society. Always looking to blame others. These are 40 year old men. They are the only ones that should be responsible for their actions. A bar is in business to serve alcohol, there would be none open if they cut off people at 3 beers.

Exactly, no one will take blame for their own actions anymore.
To even come up with such a scenario.
There would never be bars making a profit anywhere if that happened and I did not read anywhere, where they were forced to drink.
It is pretty evident that Fry was probably enjoying a spiel that was not so competitive, along with the rest of the team. A kind of break for Fry.

That’s a pretty big stretch Fresca. A legal bar serving legal alcohol to legal patrons. Patrons that harmed inanimate objects and hurt some feelings. Compared to an illegal druggy taking illegal drugs bought from an illegal supplier. Who are slitting throats. Not quite the same don’t you think?
Speaking of growing up, these guys are 40 years old.

Can sort of understand how they were drunk for Hartung game but the Heidt game was next day at noon roughly, should have been ready for that. Don't agree with Fresca at all that it was the club's fault. Too bad it got to where it is. Even making news in U. S. Fry is the biggest name so gets biggest coverage.

Good on the committee for making the decision. If it had been a WCT slam event, they would still be trying to decide what to do and then end up doing nothing.

News reports have Red Deer facility manager Wade Thurber saying, "‘OK, that’s enough of this gong show.’ The committee for the bonspiel collectively decided that we needed to remove them from the spiel for this year and what happens down the road, I’m not sure yet.”
I salute you, Mr. Thurber. A "Gong Show" indeed! Looking foward to what you and Red Deer do next.

The club is the main cause of what happend? Take your head out of your ass. They're adults, they make their own decisions. They could have just went and purchased their own alcohol if the club didn't serve them. They probably would have become beligerent if they were cut off. I don't know what the rules are in Alberta, but most places won't cut you off unless you're becoming obnoxious or are driving. Anyhow, sure maybe the club holds a little responsiblity, but to say they're the main cause is assinine. People are in charge of their own decisions. The club wasn't cutting off any of the other teams...but somehow they didn't end up swearing, breaking brooms, kicking rocks, and messing with other teams equipment. Only one team did that.

No, it would have been a non-event if they acted like professionals. There is no guarantee that it wouldn't have happend if they were cut off.
I even said the club could claim part of the responsibity...but ultimately you're in charge of yourself. Most people know how to drink repsonsibly without being babysat.
