Why would any organization have a single knockout tourney for a provincial championship?

The TCA Junior "Spiel" is not the provincial championship. It's a Christmas event that the Toronto Curling Association hosts. The Ontario Juniors begins on January 2nd.

Thanks for the clarification. With all the other provincials going on, I made an assumption. Shouldn't do that.
